Some classes ago we did a Foley art experiment with a silent video and me and the students in my classroom each had a part to complete the video. For example sounds like footsteps, animal sounds, and any random thing we could find in our classroom to add to our silent video.

ORIGINAL VIDEO
Starting off with watching the video with no sound was definitely a little awkward. It felt as the video had no emotion and since everyone in the class was quiet it brought a lot of awkwardness to the room. We watched the video around twice and once we played it a third time we all tried some things to try and fit it into the video. The next step after watching the video was to try and look around the room to see what we could use to make sounds like bubbles, footsteps, doors, etc. This process took a little long since we didn't have exactly everything that could possibly be the exact sound so we had to try and make it seem like the exact sounds. After figuring out which objects we were doing for each scene we started getting to work. We started separating each scene to each person and had 3 editors who edited after we done everything. After each person got their role we replayed the video about many times and each person played their part. It was hard trying to have each person do their scene since we had to get the right timing and sound. It took about two to three classes to get the right timing, sounds, and for each person to get their role together. We had one scene we had to have a student speaking so we created a dialogue.
My role that me and classmates decided on was for editing since I did do some editing in the past for other school works. I really wanted to edit this video but sadly I had an emergency so I couldn't be in class the day that it was time to edit. Even though I wasn't in school that day I was there to experience everything else that I talked about and I did help trying to make sounds. By the end of this project I definitely learned what it was like to be a Foley artist and how hard and difficult it is to create sounds. Towards the beginning it was very hard to try and find the correct items to create sounds and have each person have their own roles. It was also very fun and exciting getting to learn these things that I never learned before so doing this project was very fun and interesting.
After watching the video I would say that the video was a great success and I was extremely happy in how I it turned out. Once we watched the original video with the original sounds we realized we added a lot of sounds that the original video didn't have. When we watched the original video the whole class was left in shocked since the original video didn't have enough sounds.
Overall, this project was definitely a very interesting fun project. I loved working with my classmates and learning new things about a Foley artist. It was very enjoyable to create a whole clip of sounds just using items from our classroom. There was many hard moments like getting the exact timing of a door slam or finding the right time to create the bird sounds but overall it was a very interesting idea.
